My husband and I just bought the first house we have ever owned together and have been working tirelessly to make it into a home. It stirs up old memories of growing up, watching my parents work on our home. I grew up in a house that was always clean, decorated and cozy. My mom worked hard to keep every square inch immaculate and celebrated each season with fresh décor pieces. I definitely got my love of seasonal decorating from her! My dad was always working on a project; adding an addition, updating the kitchen, floors, bathrooms, the list goes on forever. My point being that both of them worked together to create a home they loved, and that stuck with me.
With each brushstroke of paint, wood plank laid, furniture placed, I picture our life here. The family pictures that will hang on these walls I painted, the little feet that will run across the kitchen floor, the friends that will gather around the dining table under the chandelier that we hung. I can see how each moment of work is an investment in the place that we will make our most precious memories. This is the very reason why home decorating is so important to me. It’s more than making a house pretty! It’s making a home where you will build years of beautiful memories.
