I can’t believe it’s the holiday season already! If you are reading this thinking “it’s too early for that,” please see my last post regarding early holiday celebration.
This is my most favorite time of the year, but it always seems to go by too quickly. Just like we do in fall, at the beginning of the season, Michael and I sit down and curate a list of all the things we would like to do this holiday season. Ever since we started doing this a few years ago, we look back on the holiday season at the start of the new year with sweet memories instead of feeling wiped out from all the chaos.
See NYC at Christmas
I can’t believe I am going to cross this one off this year! I have always wanted to go to New York City at Christmastime and this year I will get to experience it with my family! We are going to go to a Christmas market in central park, see the tree at Rockefeller, marvel at the 5th avenue displays and that is just the start!
Turn our house into a Hallmark Christmas Movie Set
Ok, If I’m being honest, I can already cross this one off the list. We got tons of snow on Halloween this year and I just had to put my tree up! I have finally finished decorating inside, but it took a full three weeks. I love Hallmark Christmas movie houses where the entire house looks like it was designed around holiday decor. That’s pretty much what I’m going for! Now we just have to finish the outdoor lights this weekend and we are done!
Host a Christmas Party
A couple of years ago we hosted our first holiday party with family and friends and it was so much fun that we have made it an annual event! Each year it gets bigger and more elaborate and this year is extra special because it is the first in our new home! I can’t wait to see how it comes together this year.
Go on a Light Ride
During the hustle and bustle of the holidays, its extra important to remember the little things. When I was a kid, my parents would bundle up my sister and I and put us in the car for light rides. We would drive through neighborhood after neighborhood and “ooh” and “ahh” at the houses all lit up. These rides are some of my most treasured childhood Christmas memories! Michael and I have carried on the tradition for the last six years. I make hot cocoa, we take our dog, Sadie and admire all the beautiful twinkle lights.
Bake Cookies for Friends and Neighbors
I feel like this is a great gesture that people just don’t do anymore. I love it because it’s a great way to connect with our neighbors and friends. Something about receiving cookies that you know someone worked hard to make is so special.
Have a Christmas movie watching day
This will probably happen at my sister’s house this year. We stay in our matching holiday pjs all day, drink candy cane coffee, and binge watch our favorite Christmas movies. It is one of most most favorite days of the whole year!
Send Christmas Cards
In past years, I have handwritten each and every card and as thoughtful as that is, it takes a TON of time. This year I ordered cards with Shutterfly and it was a massive time saver! Plus, the cards are beautiful.
Read A Christmas Carol
I love watching the Muppet version of A Christmas Carol, but this year I actually wanted to read the book. Michael and I are planning on listening to the audio book during our Thanksgiving road trip!
Go to a Holiday Market
I think I am going to be able to knock this one off the list a couple of times this year! There is a Christmas market going on in town in a couple of weeks and then I am going to get to visit one in Central Park as well! These are always the best places to get small, but unique gifts.
